Tomioka Nishi-Elementary school
yHistory of the Schoolz
Tomioka West Elementary School was established in 1873, and at the time, it was known as Nanokaichi Elementary School.
The
school had also been merged with Tomioka Elementary School at one
stage, but was finally re-opened with its current name in 1957.
The school is located in the central part of Tomioka and is within the two school regions, Nanokaichi area and Kurokawa area.
500m east of the school lies the recently listed UNESCO World Heritage Site (since June 2014)- the Tomioka Silk Mill.
The school has been known by the local people as "The School of the Sun".
And as a result, the drawing of a large sun was painted on one of the
walls of the Southern Building of the school (and commonly known as the
'Sun Block')in 1970.
Since then, this Sun has also become the
school's symbol.in addition, a 'Children of the Sun' plaque was
installed at the main entrance of the school.
The teaching staff
here believes the need to fulfil the request of the local people in
that the children of Tomioka West Elementary will have grown up full of
strong energy 'like the sun'.
yAims of the schoolz
We strive to ensure that the children at Tomioka West hold key
qualities surrounding the school's motto of "Independence and
